The Lamborghini Urus is an insane Super Sport Utility Vehicle or SSUV. It delivers top performance with its twin-turbo V8, and it comes ready to conquer any off-road trail, but is the Lamborghini Urus automatic? Let’s find out as we learn all about its transmission options.
Standard, the twin-turbo V8 is mounted to an 8-speed longitudinal transmission. This robust transmission allows the Urus to pump 641 horsepower to the road with impressive efficiency. However, this transmission is also an automatic. As with other Lamborghini models currently on the market, there is only one transmission option available on the Urus.

The transmission may be automatic, but you can actually still shift the SSUV manually. It comes with standard paddle shifters that allow you to make gear changes without taking your hands off the wheel. You can also utilize the ANIMA system to adjust drive profiles on the fly to make those automatic shifts more aggressive as well.
Will Lamborghini ever make a front-wheel-drive vehicle?
Manual shifting was a big deal decades ago. Manuals were faster and they were also often a point of pride for the driver. They did wear out faster though, and although many people thought they knew the best way to shift a manual transmission, it turns out the best performance, even in a straight line, could only be obtained by true professionals.
In fact, modern automatic transmissions, in many cases, are better than what even the professionals can provide. Plus, when you mate an automatic transmission to your engine, you don’t have to worry about the fatigue of shifting through a bunch of gears for the driver, so you can up the gear count. That’s why the Urus employs an 8-speed. You won’t find many fully manual options that give you eight speeds to sort through.
With an 8-speed transmission and a lightning-fast shift time, you can obtain more efficient acceleration through the gears. That’s not just efficiency in the fuel economy department, but also how efficiently the engine can get power to the road. In fact, all modern Lamborghini models are automatics for these reasons.
